So in this condition skin becomes colorless.  Research proves that this is one of the autoimmune diseases found in the society. Also Vitiligo is sometimes associated with some other autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes mellitus, Addison’s disease, pernicious anemia, alopecia areata, and systemic lupus erythematosus and stress. Michael Jackson is attacked by the same malady in his adult life. Vtiligo makes people awkward and anxious but it is not much dangerous.  The treatments are limited for this disease.

“Current treatments for vitiligo can be cumbersome, expensive and have side effects, besides being less than optimal in results,” explains Lenox Hill Hospital dermatologist Dr. Doris Day, of New York City.

She adds, thought that the downsides of vitiligo can go far beyond just cosmetic.

Day goes on to say, “We know that appearance has a powerful impact on self esteem, and having white blotches that are very difficult to cover with makeup — in very visible areas such as the face and hands — can have a powerful negative impact on both social and professional activities.”

As such, a new study into potential treatments has found that hair loss drugs also known as baldness drugs may provide great benefit to vitiligo payments.

“This drug has had a very impressive impact for hair loss treatments,” she tells, “and [based on the new study] I’m optimistic it will have a similar reliable effect for those suffering from vitiligo. Of course, clinical trials are needed to help evaluate dosing and results, but it’s very exciting to have a drug to work with that shows so much promise.”

Tofacitinib is that drug and it is also named as a JAK inhibitor and it is FDA authorized drug that is use to treat the loss of hair- a condition known as alopecia areata. In past days, this drug has also received approval for the treatment of other autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.  Now the researchers started to deliberate the potential benefit for vitiligo patients.
