Approved Personal Item Exceptions for Usmle step 1 prep

USMLE have permitted some of the medically related instruments and other items in the test session. If you feel a need for a medical item during your test examination of subjects in USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CS, Step 2 CK or Usmle step 1 prep,  examination, these items will be there for you. There is no need to make a request to NBME for approval, you will have access to the items/instruments you need.

  • Braces (Back, Neck, Wrist, Ankle or Leg etc)
  • Varying Bandages
  • Cervical/casts collar
  • Earplugs Foam (Only Step 1, Step 2 CK, and Step 3)

  • Ophthalmology Related
  • Epi-Pen
  • Eye drops
  • Eye patches
  • Glucose monitor
  • Sugar tablets
  • Simple Magnifying Hand held glass
  • Cooling packs/Warm pads
  • Inhaler
  • Medical alert bracelet
